Introducing Orchard Valley School

The Community joins in dancing around the Maypole
Orchard Valley School (OVS) is the fruit of a unified effort to provide Waldorf education in Central Vermont. OVS is an independent, non-sectarian school with two locations. Our main campus at Grace Farm is located on Route 14 between the villages of East and North Montpelier – less than 15 minutes from downtown Montpelier. We serve children ages 3 - 11 in state-accredited early childhood programs and an elementary school through grade 5, with a grade to be added each year up through 8th grade. We also offer a Morning Garden program one day per week for two and three year olds along with their parents. Our Child’s Garden campus is located on Northfield Street in Montpelier and offers a mixed-age kindergarten.

Philosophy

Orchard Valley School is dedicated to the principles of Waldorf education, honoring the individuality and creativity of each child. The children and faculty of OVS make full use of the outdoors for study, play, and natural discovery. The natural setting of both campus locations reinforces the curriculum in fostering a genuine reverence for the earth. The rich academic and artistic curriculum – based on an understanding of the child’s needs at each stage of development, from the early years through young adulthood – is now practiced in nearly 900 schools worldwide.
The visual and performing arts, including sculpting, painting, drawing, drama, and music, form an integral part of the academic curriculum. Waldorf education seeks to address the needs of the whole child by bringing a joyful, meaningful, and living education to the children in order to develop their body, mind, and spirit. We wish to give children strength for life by honoring and nurturing their sense of reverence and wonder. We work to foster in each child revelations of their own innate wisdom while teaching them practical skills and academic capacities.
